2010 McDonald’s Volunteer Award Recipients

Congratulations to the three recipients of the 2010 McDonald’s Volunteer Award Program. Each recipient was nominated by their peers, and received a prize package from McDonald’s valued at $200.

Darlene Hein

Darlene has been involved in minor hockey week for several years. She is currently the co-manager for Glengarry Arena and also assists throughout the entire tournament at Clareview Arena. Darlene not only schedules the volunteers, but also ensures that the volunteers are taken care of during the time they are involved.

She performs these duties in addition to her “regular” duties, including chair of Federation Hockey, Secretary of the Northeast Zone (NEZ) Sports Council, and registrar for NEZ Midget Hockey.

Shaun Mitchell

For approximately eight years, Shaun has managed the finals back when they were played at Northlands AgriCom (renamed Edmonton EXPO Centre), Rexall Place, and now Confederation arena. In addition to these duties, he has coached all three of his sons; time keeps at regular season games, and is the first to lend a hand wherever help is needed. His volunteerism also extends to bingos, casinos, and tournaments relating to the clubs he is associated with.

Len and Angie Mayer

Len and Angie have been a part of Minor Hockey Week as arena managers at Mill Woods Recreation Centre for more than ten years. What is most important about them is that they approach their volunteer duties as a family; something that has been recognized and appreciated to those that have been associated with!

Every volunteer is special to us. We are pleased to share stories of just a few individuals that helped make Quikcard Edmonton Minor Hockey Week a success. We look forward to receiving more great stories about the wonderful volunteers for the 2011 McDonald’s Volunteer Award program.
